VIRTUAL “WALK THROUGH” UPS ANTICIPATION

Attendees of Edgarley Assisted Living’s 64th Annual General Meeting on Tuesday were treated to a virtual “walk-through” of the new development, which features panoramic views from communal areas and balconies over the picturesque Glenelg River.

The sneak peek has upped anticipation amongst the Edgarley community for the completion of the new building, which is scheduled for July 2021.

Chair Andrew Speirs’ annual report reflected the positive vibe that has been created by the development, noting the future is looking much brighter now than when he took on the role of Chair in 2010, tempered by the ongoing issues faced by all aged care facilities to attract adequate government funding.

Mr Speirs thanked members of the Board for their selfless contribution to the organisation, the Edgarley Ladies Auxiliary and community volunteers for their dedication, and residents and families who are “at the heart of the organisation”.

Edgarley’s staff were also recognised for their dedication to and expert care of residents, particularly in light of the findings of the Royal Commission into Aged Care.

“We are very proud of our staff, and the organisation as a whole.  Their work is very much appreciated and valued,” Mr Speirs said.

Mr Speirs concluded by thanking outgoing CEO Steve Toope for his huge commitment, passion, persistence and “left of centre thinking”.

“Without Steve’s input Edgarley would not be as well advanced as it is,” he said.

Edgarley Treasurer, Alan Elijah, presented a positive financial report with a $178,000 surplus, noting that occupancy rose from 91 percent to 96 per cent over the course of the year.

Mr Elijah noted that the new development will provide Edgarley with a number of opportunities to improve services and care to residents.

“The new building will have everything under the one roof, and will give us efficiencies in cost and management.  This will be a vast improvement for all,” he said.

Long serving staff were also recognised, and it was noted that one of the organisation’s future challenges will be recruiting extra staff for the new development.
