After a considerable gestation period, the construction of the long awaited Edgarley Residential Aged Care facility is imminent.

The new development, which includes 60 beds, a commercial kitchen, industrial laundry, new dining areas, a large decking area, new administration offices, consulting rooms, care stations, a multipurpose hall and hairdressing studio, will bring aged care in our community to another level.

Edgarley Chair, Andrew Speirs, said that excitement is building amongst staff and residents as support infrastructure for the building is moved on site.

“The Board is very pleased that movement is happening after a lot of hard work by all concerned. It is a step in the right direction,” Mr Speirs said.

“The site is now fully fenced, and Glenelg Shire Planning endorsement has been received,” he said.

“With the building permit coming through this month, early works, including in-ground services and lower ground, are now due for completion by the end of July this year.”

CEO, Steve Toope, said the development is about more than just bricks and mortar. It will bring peace of mind to families and build pride amongst the wider community, knowing that older residents are able to age well in a pleasing environment.

“At Edgarley, we pride ourselves on ensuring residents remain connected to their community,” Mr Toope said.

“This new development, which boasts modern interiors as well as an extensive outdoor deck, will rejuvenate and revitalise the living environment for our residents, enhance the caring experience for staff, and be far more inviting for visitors.”

Project Managers, Connect , have confirmed that practical completion will take just over two years, with handover due to occur in July 2021.
